Long ago, in quiet villages and bustling cities alike, crochet was more than a pastime — it was a way for communities to gather, share stories, and strengthen bonds. It wasn’t just about making beautiful things with yarn; it was about weaving friendships, one stitch at a time.
On April 20th, we rekindled that tradition at our Crochet for Beginners: A Creative & Relaxing Workshop, hosted at the peaceful Nature Center Café near Copenhagen’s historic Hundredmeterskoven. Supported by LifeBonder, the event brought together a small, enthusiastic group ready to learn, create, and connect — offline and authentically.

Event Highlights: Creativity, Connection, and Community
Though we originally planned to meet in the rustic shed by the woods, a sudden cold snap brought us indoors to the cozy Café — a fortunate shift, as the warm, light-filled room turned out to be the perfect setting.
Our guest hostess, Nishadi Samarathunge, skillfully led the group through the basics of crochet, from holding a hook properly to mastering simple stitches. Whether a beginner or someone brushing up old skills, everyone found something to enjoy.

There were smiles, laughter, and many moments of encouragement. One particularly touching moment was when a soon-to-be mother shared that after struggling with online tutorials, she finally felt confident enough to crochet a piece for her baby girl — a real testament to the power of learning together.
As our Community Lead Geetanjali Hinda perfectly summarized:
“When people come together to create and share, it isn’t just hobbies that are built — it’s friendships.”
Impact & Engagement: Small Gathering, Big Impact
Even with just 8 participants, the energy was vibrant and the outcomes meaningful:
- Total Participants: 8
- Engagement: Every participant completed more than one crochet pattern
- Feedback: 100% of attendees said they would recommend the workshop to friends and are excited for future sessions
One attendee commented,
“It was refreshing to put down the phone and just create, laugh, and connect with others in such a peaceful setting.”
LifeBonder’s support for initiatives like this underscores our mission: encouraging real-life social interactions that enhance mental health, foster belonging, and promote genuine friendships.

Lessons Learned & Takeaways: Growing Stronger Together
Key insights from the event included:
- Adaptability is Key: The Café venue shift reminded us that comfort enhances connection.
- In-person Learning is Powerful: Seeing crochet demonstrated live helped participants grasp techniques faster and enjoy the learning process more deeply.
- Creative Activities Build Trust: Crafting together naturally led to deeper conversations and new friendships.
Looking ahead, we’ll keep refining our events with ideas like themed mini-projects and creative challenges to make each gathering even more memorable.
