A Night of Lights, Connection, and Discovery

The cold wind brushed against our faces as we stepped out of the metro station, the city lights reflecting off the wet cobblestone streets. It had been snowing the whole day, blanketing Copenhagen in a serene layer of white, making the evening even more magical. Among the group gathered at Kongens Nytorv, some attendees whispered in curiosity, unsure of what to expect. One participant, a young woman visiting from Germany, turned to her friend and asked, “Do you think this will be like a guided tour?” Before her friend could answer, Geetanjali Hinda, our Community Manager, stepped forward with a warm smile. “Welcome, everyone! Tonight is about more than just light installations. It’s about discovering Copenhagen together.” And with that, our journey began.
Event Highlights: A Walk to Remember
Held on Saturday, February 15, 2025, at 6:00 PM CET, our route took us through some of the festival’s most breathtaking installations, from ‘The Wave’ near the canal, where we encouraged group conversations, to the whimsical bathtub installation that had everyone laughing in delight. Along the way, attendees admired stunning light sculptures like ‘From Here to Eternity II’ and ‘Closer to You’, each with its own story to tell.

One of the most cherished moments came during our walk near Christiansborg Palace, where centuries-old buildings cast shadows under the festival lights. Two Danish senior citizens in our group shared that, despite living in Copenhagen for years, they had never walked this path before. Their newfound appreciation for their own city was a powerful reminder of the magic such events can bring.
A ride on the water taxi added another layer of excitement. Many participants experienced it for the first time, making it a highlight of the evening. As we moved from one installation to the next, conversations sparked naturally, breaking the initial hesitance many had felt at the beginning of the walk.
Impact & Engagement: A Community United
Despite 30 signups, 14 attendees joined us on the walk, making a total of 15 participants including organizers. The engagement was exceptional—90% of the feedback received was positive, with attendees expressing appreciation for the unique experience. The ability to explore the city’s art in an interactive, social way resonated with many.
Here’s what one attendee had to say:
“I loved how the event encouraged us to connect with new people while enjoying the beauty of the festival. The information about the installations and the historical locations added so much depth to the experience!”
Lessons Learned & Takeaways
The event proved that community-driven experiences are key to making people feel connected. Initially, many participants stayed within their own groups, but simple engagement prompts helped them open up. This insight will be valuable for future events—icebreaker activities and structured group interactions can enhance social bonding.
Geetanjali Hinda summed it up best:
“I’m not tired at all; in fact, I feel motivated to plan the next event and brainstorm new ideas.”
